Following up on the earlier story about the possible guns rights ordinance proposed in Chesterfield, Missouri, Dave Roland, of the Freedom Center of Missouri, reported from the City Council meeting tonight:
“Chesterfield’s City Attorney said tonight that the Missouri Constitution may protect your right to keep and bear arms… but it doesn’t say a thing about FIRING those weapons. This is a quintessential example of how government attorneys try to parse away our Constitutional liberties!!”
We are eternally grateful to Mr. Roland for his proactive vigilance towards the freedoms of this nation. Talk is cheap and he continues to take action to protect our liberties.
Mr. Roland later summarized the evening:
“Here is the Post-Dispatch’s coverage of last night’s Chesterfield City Council meeting. The Council dramatically amended the proposal so that it now only prohibits using a firearm to defend one’s property against rodents and small birds. This is a significant improvement, to be sure, but it would still penalize a citizen from targeting creatures that are in the act of causing damage to property. Our hope is that the Council amends the bill further to make clear that property owners may shoot animals (even small ones) that are in the act of damaging or are posing an immediate threat of damage to their property.”
We will continue to follow this story.
